The children and families living in the small village of Machakos face numerous challenges. Widespread poverty means that kids go hungry, suffer from malnutrition or sickness, and drop out of school. Many families struggle to survive and break up, with children being abandoned or neglected as a result. Abuse and child labor are risks faced by many children. There are even “child-headed households,” with kids living in homes without an adult to care for their basic needs.
Calvary Church in Valparaiso, IN, has a long history of serving the children of Machakos by sponsoring children, sending mission teams and volunteers, offering practical support and expertise, and prayer. HopeCo is delighted to join hands in partnership with Calvary with the goal of seeing the lives of children and their families transformed and the wider community of Machakos flourishing. We will offer nutritious meals, assistance with education, spiritual nurture, counseling, and other support as needed to 60+ children in the Machakos community.

We support children with their high school and college education, enabling each to reach their full academic potential and break out of poverty.
