Nancy was almost killed – but now she is safe
14-year-old Nancy has experienced trauma that no child ever should. Following a recent, horrific assault, she was left for dead by her attackers. Thankfully, we heard about her desperate need, and our staff in Kenya stepped in to rescue her as she was unable to stay in her family’s home.
Nancy is now safe. She is experiencing love, receiving counseling, and is starting to heal from her emotional wounds. She is now attending a great school where she is enrolled in Form Eight - she is eager to learn and determined to reach her potential!
Nancy is the first of many vulnerable girls that we hope to be able to rescue in Kenya. Please pray for her continued healing and that we would see her flourish in the years ahead!

A small, but significant, victory in the fight against FGM
Recently the village of Ntagacha in Tanzania has seen three weddings of girls who have not endured female genital mutilation (FGM).
It is the first time that this has happened. Until now, many men have refused to marry girls that have not undergone FGM. “This is a tremendous breakthrough, and we are inspired to keep fighting,” says Hudson Mahare, our director in East Africa. “We are committed to seeing a long-term change in this matter.”
Our young people recently marked the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM with a procession to raise awareness about FGM in three villages around Ntagacha (see the video). We also continue to work with the local government, church leaders, and other community bodies to speak out against this dangerous practice.

Education is ESSENTIAL to break the chains of poverty
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world,” Nelson Mandela once famously stated. How true this is. Education is a key to new opportunities, providing children with the hope that they may break chains of poverty and despair that have bound their families and communities for generations.
That is why we place such a high emphasis on giving children a quality education. Our vision is to see transformed lives and flourishing communities, and education is vital in accomplishing this.
And we are delighted with our secondary school’s recent outstanding exam results. We rank as the third-best school in the region, and nationwide we are 58th out of more than 3,600 schools – putting us in the top two percent of schools in the whole country!
