From "disgrace" to "miracle"
Today, Maria is known as the “miracle girl”.
But Maria has not always been described this way. In fact, there was a time when she was called other names, including “curse” and “disgrace”.
You see, Maria was born with a defect known as clubfoot, and also had severe problems with her knees. She could not walk, or even stand. This resulted in her being taunted mercilessly by other children who would jeer and throw mud at her. Attending school was not an option. Maria was an outcast – forgotten, miserable, fearful.
Then City of Hope stepped in to help – and Maria’s life changed forever!
Maria came to live in our safe, loving children’s home with people who care for her. She started going to school for the first time. And our caring medical team began working with her to address her physical condition. After several surgeries in Kenya, along with physiotherapy, Maria is now able to walk with the help of braces on her ankles and feet.
But that’s not all. I am delighted to share that Maria also has eternal hope. She has committed her life to her Heavenly Father and loves to sing praises to Him as part of the church choir!
This is what City of Hope is all about!
Yet hope can seem to be in short supply among the vulnerable families in this community. While in the USA we have been gripped by the coronavirus pandemic, that is just one of the many diseases that ravages Tanzania today. Malaria is a ruthless killer – especially during the current rainy season. And diarrhea, malnutrition and other sicknesses cause the death of countless children across the country.
In response, our medical center at City of Hope saves many hundreds of lives every year, serving moms giving birth to precious babies, providing essential medicines to sick children, and performing crucial surgeries. Vital preventative care is also given through vaccinations and health education. And our staff are a voice for young, vulnerable girls as they advocate vigorously against the cruel and harmful practice of Female Genital Mutilation.
Because of your prayers and support, God is reaching young girls like Maria and hundreds of other children, and their families, in Tanzania. We are grateful for your partnership!
And together, we have an opportunity to do even more to transform lives for His glory! Two generous City of Hope supporters have joined hands to offer an additional dollar for every two dollars we receive between now and July 31, 2020, up to a maximum of $200,000!
This means that any gift you make before July 31 will go even further to change lives! A donation of $100 instantly becomes $150…a $500 donation will become $750…and a $1,000 donation results in $1,500 for our vital work.
By supporting City of Hope today, you can make a lasting, even eternal, difference for even more children in Tanzania!
Please keep our children, their families, and our staff in your prayers during this challenging time. And please make a generous gift today, knowing that it will increase in value and bring healing and hope to precious children and their families, for God’s glory.
Thank you for your partnership in rescuing children like Maria. We are grateful!
