Here is the latest news from East Africa!

Thank you for your care, support, and prayers for vulnerable children, their families, and communities in Tanzania and Kenya! Here is some of the latest news, so pour yourself a cup of coffee and take a few minutes to catch up, celebrate the progress made, and pray with us!

The Home of Comfort opens soon!

Many suffering girls in East Africa are desperate to be rescued from the horrors of violence, abuse, and child marriage.

That’s why the Home of Comfort, our new program in Kenya, will open in the coming weeks. The facility is ready, caregivers and counselors are in the process of being hired, and we are working with the Kenyan authorities to identify the girls that most urgently need rescue!

Our vision is to see these precious girls receive the love and support that enables them to heal and flourish. Please pray with us for this vital new program as we make the final preparations - and pray especially that God would already be working in the hearts of the girls we will serve.

You can be part of the rescue team too. Just $20 a month can make a significant difference in the life of a frightened, vulnerable girl.

Our new tractor arrives to a huge welcome!

Building long-term sustainability is one of our goals at City of Hope in Tanzania, and this includes increasing the amount of food we grow ourselves. That’s why we were delighted to finalize the purchase of a brand-new tractor last week – and as you can see from this short video, it was received with much jubilation by our children and staff!

This new tractor will go a long way in helping us develop our agricultural program and help our staff as they teach the students essential farming skills. Last year, we harvested a total of 16,667 pounds of maize. This year, with the new tractor, we will do even more - and grow other crops too!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the new tractor purchase – it will make a difference!

Taking a stand against female genital mutilation

Although illegal, female genital mutilation is widespread in many regions of East Africa, including where HopeCo serves. Our vision is to see an end to FGM so that girls and young women can grow up without fear of this. That’s why we provide protection to girls at risk, offer education and training opportunities to young women, and campaign relentlessly against this evil practice.

We invite you to join us by praying:

  • For continued protection and healing for girls and women who have experienced or are at risk from FGM

  • That more church leaders in East Africa will speak out and challenge harmful gender norms and beliefs that lead to FGM

  • For boldness and wisdom for our own children as they raise awareness in our communities about FGM

Thank you for your prayers!

How can we pray for you?

Yes, you read that right! Our staff meets every Tuesday to pray for our work and our partners – and that includes you!

Feel free to share with us your prayer requests – about your health, family, job, or whatever is on your heart. Don’t worry; we’ll keep it confidential. And we’ll let you know when we have prayed for you!

There’s a simple form at the bottom of the prayer page on our website where you can let us know how we can pray. We look forward to hearing from you!
