Hilda’s Legacy House
(Formerly House of Faraja Safe House)
Kenya

Our safe house rescues girls out of unimaginable abuse, offering protection, counsel, education, and hope as they heal.

    RESCUE AND PROTECTION

HopeCo operates a safe house that provides protective care to vulnerable girls that have been rescued from childhood violence and abuse, away from further harm and danger.

  • Five children sit in a circle outdoors on chairs, talking and smiling under a large tree in a green, fenced yard.

    QUALITY EDUCATION

The girls at Hilda’s Legacy House are safe, receive trauma-informed counseling, quality education, and are cared for by our loving staff. Resuming their education is critical to their stability and sense of normalcy while they heal.

    EMPOWERMENT

Our goal is to see each precious girl heal from the trauma she has experienced, and see her life changed as she comes to know her loving Heavenly Father. Whenever possible, reuniting each girl with their families and helping families flourish is our desire.

In 2026, in Memory of Hilda Boke Mahare, House of Faraja Safe House was Renamed Hilda’s Legacy House

Hilda served as HopeCo’s Kenya Programs Director, and seeing the need in her community for a safe house for young girls, was passionate to help these victims and was integral in opening this facility in 2022.

Hilda’s Legacy House has the capacity to safely shelter 10 young girls, with individualized care, out of abusive circumstances. Girls as young as three years of age and as old as 23 years of age (with an infant), have received the loving, professional, and prayerful trauma-informed counseling that brings healing from the horrors they have endured through the power of Jesus Christ!

A normal routine is healthy and essential, and the girls enjoy activities, sports, crafts, reading, cooking, and are expected to do chores (like any home). Enrolling them in local schools so their education isn’t interrupted is essential to their well-being and growth.

Young girls remain in this program as long as is needed with the goal of eventually and safely reintegrating them back with their families, if possible, with close monitoring through our community outreach initiatives and only after the perpetrator is serving a prison sentence.

Such was one young girl named Grace*. After more than two years of healing, learning, and growing, she was successfully reintegrated into her home. A quiet force, her hands were always busy, her heart always willing...whether helping in the kitchen, crafting, or offering a listening ear to younger girls, she embodied kindness, diligence, and quiet strength.
